Could you all please purr for Lucy.
..
She woke me in the night being sick and I got out of bed to clean up and found it was just blood. I rushed to ring the vet and while I was dialling she was sick with blood again.
The vet said to go straight down and she examined her and thinks it may be an ulcer - she gave her a shot of antibiotic and sent me home with Antepsin which she has to have by syringe 3 times a day and Zantac to be given by syringe twice a day.
At present she is hiding in a basket as she is mad at me for wrapping her in a bath towel and giving her both lots of medication!
She must not have any food until this afternoon so have had to feed Hannah "behind closed doors"!
Does anyone have any advice to give me please?
I am just praying she is not going to be sick with blood again and this is just a one off episode - it being the weekend makes it seem so much worse as the vets are only on call after lunchtime today.
Sorry for my ravings but I beside myself with worry over this.
.
Oh noes! Our Teri is away delivering Spot and Dot to their new home and she woke up early and your post was the first blog post she read...this is worrisome, but you got right to the vet and sounds like the meds are spot on. Teri says tummy things still confuse her as to what happens where in the intestinal tract but she will ask the cat vet she works for and let you know what she says. We are purring for healing!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness Lucy!!! I am so sorry Sue - oh poor Lucy! You know I've had all sorts of diseases and illnesses thrown at my kitties but I've never ever ever had to deal with kitties with ulcers. How frightening for you. I am hoping and praying that the meds work and that sweet Lucy won't be vomiting blood again. I'm hoping the vet's meds work. I have everything, everything everything crossed!! I really don't know what to advice. I hope the meds work. Please keep us updated if possible. Hang on in there Sue and Lucy!!!! Poor Lucy!!! And hugs to Hannah. I hope someone in the CB will know about ulcers in cats and give you helpful advice.
ReplyDeleteTake care

Oh, this is so scary! Poor Lucy and Mum Sue! Of course we are purring hard for her and sending healing Light. The only time any of the cats threw up blood was when Annie had so many hair balls a couple of summers ago, and she coughed so hard, that she broke a tiny blood vessel. So our mom has no experience with this and can't offer advice. Just purrs and purrayers and paws crossed!
ReplyDeleteThat is very scary and worrying, we are so sorry to hear this. Hopefully the medicines will work and Lucy will be feeling much better soon. Please keep us posted.
ReplyDeleteKate and Dora the Explorer
I'm so sorry to hear about Lucy!
ReplyDeleteJulie says..I hope you get comfort from suggestions coming in. I haven't had any experience with blood, but I'm sure it's scary. Both Tom and I will have you in our thoughts and prayers that it's a simple thing and easily remedied. Please let us know how things are going. Though not posting,I try to read posts during the week, especially if kitties and their families are going through a tough time and need some silent prayers.
xoxoTom
My sisters and I are purring and purring for sweet Lucy. Please get better sweetie!

ReplyDeleteOh Lucy we are so sorry to hear that you are sick. That must have really scairt the Mom and we know she is a wreck. We have never had anything like that before so we don't have any advice. So we are sending tons of prayers and purrs from all of us. Great big hugs to Mom. Please keep us posted how she is doing. We are very fond of Lucy. Take care. Get better Lucy.
ReplyDeleteOur mom had a cat a number of years ago that suffered from CRF...and one of the things CRF kitties can get is stomach ulcers. Bogart would throw up blood occasionally. The vet prescribed carafate (which is similar to the antepsin. Bogart also took pepcid once and awhile. Sounds like your vet is on top of this and we are purring that Lucy will be feeling better real soon.
ReplyDeleteOh dear, we are so sorry to hear that Lucy's not well. EJ knows how mum Sue feels.

Ive not had experience with this either. My crf kitty pee'd blood and threw up lots (but not blood), so I am of no help. Ulcers in human's causes blood to be thrown up so Im hoping this vet is spot on and there is nothing else wrong. We've all got healing vibes going out to Lucy.

Oh Lucy! And Mummy Sue.....We'll put our paws and hands together to pray for Lucy's quick recovery. And Lucy, please try not to fight Mummy too much with the medicine. Mummy is stressed enough with worry as it is...
ReplyDeleteMiles and I are bonking and purring for Lucy.
ReplyDeleteMom is a people nurse, and she says that milk products irritate ulcers so do not be tempted to give her milk products.
The meds should work well to get her tummy healed up, then she will be comfy. In the future there will probably need to be some investigations as to why this ulcer/stomach lining irritation occurred.
The meds will work! Rest well Missie Lucy
Oh no dear Lucy. We hope you are feeling better. And Mom Sue we have not had any experience with throwing up blood. But like you we hope it is just a one time thing, we know and understand the feelings you are experiencing. We will purr and send healing thoughts to Lucy and hope that things are better this afternoon.
