Livestrong Day - In Memory of Olga and Maxie

.

This post today is in three parts - the first one to think of everyone who is affected by someone who either has cancer or has sadly lost their fight against it.

.

.

The second one is for my Mum who was found to have cancer in November 1983 - she had a niggling pain on and off for a while and was taken into a clinic for exploratory surgery. Unfortunately it was cancer amd it had grown in a space in her abdomen and so had gone undetected until it was too late to remove as it had spread into her stomach, kidneys and liver. She was given a course of radiation which made her so sick it took weeks for her to recover from.
.
She deteriorated and we promised her she would not have to go into hospital to die. With the help of district nurses and friends we looked after her at home until her death on 8th September 1984. She was 62 years of age.
.
As well as being my mother (I am an only child) she was my best friend who saw me through a divorce and getting together with my new husband although sadly she died before she could see us marry.
.
Ann at Zoology has kindly done this picture for me and I dedicate it to mum.
.

.

The next part is for one of my beloved cats named Maxie - rescued from the Cats Protection League - he climbed up the legs of my jeans and wouldn't go down again to make sure I was all his!
.
Everyone locally knew Maxie and he used to cross the road every day and collect his girl friend Snoopy and go through her garden and over the fence into the local cemetery and have a fine time hunting and bringing home "trophies".
.
He suddenly lost weight and a visit to the vet for x rays showed he had stomach cancer - he died six days later in my arms.
.

.

Finally I would like to remember everyone who is struggling against this evil disease and hope they win their battles and punch this evil disease on the nose.

.

  21. So sorry for your Mum and Maxie Our mom is an only child too - she lost her Dad to pancreatic cancer when she was 23 and saw her Mom thru breast and skin cancer before she died of heart failure. We think it is harder for only children to lose their parents.
